Part 4 of our big trip downunder

On to our final stop in Australia and to see the sights of Sydney, we really couldn’t come all this eay and not come to Sydney. We had decided that we wanted a view in Sydney and boy did we get one, we booked 2 bedroom apartment at Quay West Suites and everyone’s face when we walked into the room and saw Sydney harbour there in front of us was a picture, a pure pinch me moment!! We quickly unpacked and headed out to see the sights, we went to The Rocks area and had some food and then headed to Sydney Tower Eye to do the skywalk, standing at 309m high it gives you a 360 degree view of the city, we went up at 7pm just after the sun had set and then were able to see the lights all switched on by the time we had walked around and stopped for photos. We picked out places that we had seen to go visit the next day.

Up and off out into Sydney after a good nights sleep and the harbour, Botanical Gardens, Opera house and Darling Harbour were on our list to visit today, we walked all day visiting the sights and managed to clock up 33,000 steps. Some great photos taken to go into the albumn. We ended the day in Darling Harbour with our friends who had flown down from Brisbane to see us and had happy hour drinks in the sunshine.

With rugby being one of the main reasons we had flown out to Oz, seeing our old rugby friends and also taking in the games the highlight of the trip has to be our last day in Sydney, with contacts back in the UK and the links with the Burgess brothers (Sam and Tom) who play for England and sadly lost their dad to MND 10 years ago we had had people working behind the scenes to see if Phil could meet the boys, but what we acutally had arranged for us was fantastic, both our families were invited to go and watch the England Rugby League team train on the Friday morning before their game against France on the Saturday and after their session we were invited pitch side to chat with them all, have photos and get signatures, 9 of us (plus another group of 9) were the only people there with the team and coaches chatting away in the stadium, as a family group we were taken to one side and asked to do a short filming session with The England Rugby League for footage to put on their facebook page, which to date has 63k views!!!! What an experience we will never forget and also Sam donated his rugby playing top from the opening England game, a true gent.

After seeing all the hot and sweaty rugby players we headed off to cool ourselves down and went to Bondi Beach for a couple of hours on the beach before the weather turned and we headed back to Sydney for our final night. A city we will never forget.
