Exploring Boston in May 2016

I’ve just returned from staying at the Omni Parker House hotel in Boston and the amazing Omni Mount Washington hotel in Bretton Woods. This is a wonderful itinerary as you have two extremes – a bustling city stay in Boston and the peace, quiet and beautiful surroundings in the mountains in Bretton Woods.

The Omni hotel chain is outstanding and they are very good at making every hotel unique – when you stay at one of their hotels you have a different experience at each location. Once you enter The Omni Parker House reception, it is like going back in time and the history is really interesting. You could spend hours looking at all of the memorabilia of the famous people who have stayed there in the past!

The location is excellent and as Boston is a ‘walking city,’ you have everything right on your doorstep. We went on a trip with Boston Duck Tours, which was a fantastic tour around Boston – the drivers and guides themselves are so helpful and friendly, and are characters in themselves!

I love Boston as there are so many areas of the city to explore yet it still has a very relaxed feel compared to any other city in the world I have stayed in. The harbour front has a very cosmopolitan feel with all of the very exclusive, private yachts there – they are a lovely sight!

And when you’re ready for a bite to eat, seafood is the main star of the show in Boston. It’s so fresh it looks like it has come straight out of the sea!

We drove up to Mount Washington in a Ford Mustang convertible and were quite surprised at how easy the drive was once we were out of the city. It took around three hours of steady driving and, as this area is a ski resort, you feel as though you could be in a European resort! We took the Cog Railway up to the top of Mount Washington, which was an experience to remember forever, and I also went on a zip line through the forest! There really are lots of hikes, gorges and outdoor activities for thrill seekers, even if you visit out of ski season.

The Omni Mount Washington hotel is sensational and is on many of my customers’ bucket lists! Once you see it in the distance and drive up the very long driveway, you really do feel like you’re in another world. The views around the hotel are amazing, and the hotel will stay in my heart forever as it has a real charm and colonial feel to it. You almost get lost in the history of it with all of the photos around the hotel!

We got up early to see sunrise and to listen to the sounds of the local birds and these together with the steam coming off the ground made my morning very special! The facilities at this hotel are wonderful and there are many different dining options available.

Away from the hotel, the shopping in North Conway is out of this world! It’s one of the US states where you do not have to pay an additional tax on your purchases, so there are some excellent buys!

This was my first visit to New England and having experienced its charms, I know I will be returning sooner rather than later. The magic of New England stays with you forever and there is so much more just waiting to be explored!
