The Perfect Family Stay-cation
Saturday 16th August 2008

What's a vacation called where every participant has a different opinion of what to do?
Answer: A family vacation
Problem: I'm not a beach person, my daughter is not a cruise person, we didn't want to fly (we all live near Philadelphia, PA), we needed a place that would appeal to a variety of ages, oh yes, and I did not want to cook.
Solution: Williamsburg, Virginia
Twelve family members reserved two 2-bedroom condos at the Williamsburg Plantation. The condo comes complete with two bedrooms, two baths, a living room, dining area and complete kitchen which was used sparingly. The Williamsburg Plantation has an indoor pool, outdoor pool, club house, children's activities, tennis, basketball and more importantly is located one mile from the prime outlets because everyone knows shopping is a important ingredient in every vacation.
This was the second time our family had used vacation condo rentals for a vacation and I would recommend this to any family traveling with children. We usually had breakfast in the condo, for lunch we could pack a sandwich, and dinner would be in a restaurant, some great take-out or have a pizza delivered -- just want the children wanted on vacation. Restaurants abound in the local area to fulfill every dining need.
Everyone purchased the "Williamsburg Bounce" pass which allowed admission to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens and Water Country USA as many times as we wanted to visit within seven days. This is great value because when the lines get long in the afternoon in Busch Gardens, we found out you can return the next morning with no waiting. Parking is included in the Bounce Pass.
An important note: I have a mobility handicap. In Busch Gardens, electric scooters and wheelchairs are available for rent. Busch Gardens has a varied landscape with steep inclines and declines. The electric scooter works well there. Water Country USA also has the steep inclines and lots of steps. But in Colonial Williamsburg, walking is very difficult and staying true to colonial times there are paths made of pebbles and sidewalks made of brick or dirt. Walking assistance devices are not available for rent. This was a real challenge.
You know the vacation was a great success when everyone wanted to know where we were going on the next family vacation.
