Wedding Anniversary in London

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we opted for a weekend in London to see a show, have a nice dinner and take the updated tour of the Tower of London.

We stayed at the Guoman Tower Hotel right by Tower Bridge and a perfect base for what we had planned. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a good view across the Thames to the South Bank and we enjoyed access to the Club lounge for complimentary drinks and nibbles. It also offered a very good all day coffee lounge, several choices of eating options including lunch on the terrace from several concession food outlets.

We had chosen to see the matinee performance of Billy Elliot at the Victoria Palace Theatre. The show was absolutely brilliant and even better and more enjoyable than we expected. For dinner we had taken up a recommendation from friends and booked a table at the Butlers Wharf Chop House Restaurant right on the river on the South bank and just a short walk across Tower Bridge. We had a table on the terrace with a superb view of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London and a memorable setting for our celebratory dinner. The food was excellent with generous portions and the service was attentive and efficient which it should be at London prices!!

On the Sunday morning we visited the Tower of London which we hadn’t been to for about 15 years. We were impressed with the relatively new Royal Armoury collection in the Norman White Tower and the moving floor way in the prime exhibit area displaying the Crown Jewels and a video illustrating when and where specific items are currently used for Royal events.

We finished our weekend with a walk around the marina in St Katherines Dock where amongst many yachts we saw the Royal Barge Gloriana which was built for the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations. There is a good selection of cafes and restaurants alongside the Marina making it a very popular area. After a leisurely lunch we headed off to St Pancras station for our train home.

The Guoman Tower Hotel is a great location for visiting the Tower area and is just a short walk from the Underground system for getting to other attractions. I have visited many cities around the world but London is still my favourite and we had a really enjoyable weekend.
